Kyokushin Karate in Tamil Nadu, India

Kyokushin Karate in India is at present in its 25th year. It has undergone numerous changes before and after the death of its Founder Legend, the late SOSAI MASUTATSU OYAMA.

Sensei M. THIAGARAJAN, Branch Chief of Tamil Nadu is at present the Chairman of the recently formed ALL INDIA FULL CONTACT KARATE ORGANISATION. Born in Malaysia, Sensei Thiagarajan had his initial training and was later promoted to Shodan by Shihan Peter Chong, Vice Chairman of IKO and is now settled in Komarapalayam for the past 25 years. Right from 1975, where Karate had its impact among the youth, grew at a steady note. From a mere three dojos in 1975, it has grown to 45 dojos with a strong work force of 33 instructors doing service for Kyokushin in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Kyokushin Karate Association was formed during the visit of Shihan Peter Chong along with a fact finding team to India. The present President, Mr. P. Elango was appointed as President by the visiting team.
